Students
WHO ARE WE AND WHAT ARE WE ALL ABOUT?
This ministry to students exists to help introduce students to a relationship with Jesus Christ with the ultimate goal of helping all students know, live, and share their faith.
Both the middle and the high school students (7-12 Grade) meet on Mid-Week nights from 6:00-7:30pm. On any given night, you can expect some sort of fun game or activity, a relevant teaching from the Bible, and a time of small group discussions that help students apply the teaching of the night.
This is a ministry of Lakeshore Baptist Church, but it is not just for students of LBC. We want this to be a place for any kind of student to come and get connected in relationships, learn about who God is and what that means for them.
Our Youth House name, The Refuge, comes from Psalms 46:1 "God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble." We seek to establish a firm foundation for life, a foundation that is built on a relationship with Jesus. It raises the question for all of us, "who or what are we building our life on?"
The Refuge is a place to gather with friends and discover what it means to truly follow Jesus in the context of school, work, family and everyday life. At The Refuge you will experience lively, Biblical teaching and lots of fun. There are also lots of activities that will help you get to know the other people at The Refuge. Parties, concerts, movie-nights, conventions, missions trips and small-groups are just a few of the things we do.
The Journey, is the focus for our students. Students are making the transition from knowing about God to being able to know God in a relational way. Over and over in the the gospels where we read about Jesus and his life, we often see a repeated phrase that Jesus uses. Sometimes he is talking specifically to a person, other times a group of disciples, and yet other times great crowds. Jesus keeps inviting people with a simple statement, "Come, Follow Me!". It is an invitation to enter into a relationship with him that is more than simply believing in who he is. It is an invitation to live in relationship with him.
This is certainly a Journey! This journey has a final destination, the hope and promise of heaven. However, if we are here, it means we are not in heaven yet. Genius... I know. But, as long as we are here on earth, we are on the journey of figuring out how to follow Jesus and live in relationship with him. That is what we are all about. This journey with Jesus, like a good road trip, was never intended to be done alone and like any other Journey in life, there will be roadblocks, detours, and plenty of crazy things that happen along the way. You will probably get lost at some point and take a wrong turn. That's where we come in. We will help you stay on the Journey, heading in the right direction, and make the journey with you.
Whether you are a student who is well into your journey, or one who is not sure you even want to take the journey, this is a place for you to start thinking about it and a place where people will make the journey with you to help figure it out.
So, where are you on your journey?
